Top 10 Favorite Couples that Inspire My Writing

As an author, I’m always looking for inspiration to help get me in the right frame of mind when I’m writing my chapters.

Since I write in a mash-up genre of sorts … crime thrillers for women aka romantic suspense, there are times when I need to be in combat mode cranking through complicated fight scenes with lots of danger and well … suspense.

But other times, I get to tap into my romantic side and weave intimacy into the scenes to develop the love story between my characters.

So, what do I do when I need to get in that romantic frame of mind?

I start off by thinking about some of my all time favorite couples from television and movies.

  • These are couples that gave me butterflies watching their love stories unfold on screen.
  • These are couples that I could watch their love story over and over again and never get tired and never stop feeling the goosebumps!

Without further ado … here are my favorites!

Honorable Mentions

Sense & Sensibility: Elinor Dashwood & Edward Farris

Eleanor and Edward fell in love, but Edward was already committed to marrying someone else. Eleanor hid her pain at being denied the love of her life, but she gets the man in the end! I love this scene where Eleanor finally lets all of her emotions out as Edward professes his love and desire to be with her now that they can finally be together!

Ever After: Danielle de Barbarac & Crown Prince Henry

I absolutely loved this updated version of the Cinderella story. The feisty Danielle captivated the Prince’s heart and this scene is a perfect reflection of what made him fall in love with her.

#10 - The O.C.: Summer Roberts & Seth Cohen

Who says nice guys don’t get the girl? With all the focus on the bad boy, dark brooding male in romance these days, I thought it was refreshing to revisit one of my all-time favorite couples: Seth & Summer.

Seth had loved Summer since they were young kids. Unlike Summer’s other suitors, Seth was the one who was truly perceptive to her feelings. He cared for her and loved her for who she was, the good and the bad. And this was more than enough to get him the girl! Score 1 for the nice guys!!!

#9 - Love & Basketball: Monica Wright & Quincy McCall

This scene still gives me goosebumps!!! Two strong willed individuals in the ultimate battle for love on the basketball court. When Monica loses the game, my heart aches for her. But Quincy comes through, in the end, making it crystal clear that she didn’t have to win his love … she had it all along! So beautiful!!!

#8 - New Girl: Jessica Day & Nick Miller

Comedic love story at it’s best!!! Awkward, bold, funny and romantic all at the same time, this scene capturing Nick kissing Jess was well worth the wait.

#7 - Hart of Dixie: Zoe Hart & Wade Kinsella

Rachel Bilson appears again in my list (she’s one of my favorite actresses btw). I loved Zoe and Wade because of the love-hate, can’t stand each other, can’t stand to be without each other, tug-of-war nature of their relationship!

#6 - Nashville: Juliette & Avery

First, I have to say that I love, love, love Jonathan Jackson and have been a huge fan of his ever since he played the role of Lucky on General Hospital. So, when I found out he was going to be on Nashville, there was no doubt I would LOVE his character, regardless of who he was playing.

The tumultuous love story between Avery and Juliette was a rollercoaster well worth riding. This is by far my favorite scene between the two when Avery proposes to Juliette!

#5 - A Different World: Whitley Gilbert & Dwayne Wayne

I still get goosebumps every time I watch this scene … The moment Dwayne interrupts Whitley’s wedding to Byron!

#4 - Pride & Prejudice: Elizabeth Bennett & Fitzwilliam Darcy

Y’all are going to get sick of me always talking about how much I LOVE Pride and Prejudice!!! I’ve talked about my favorite scene before and here’s a clip of it.

Darcy tells Elizabeth that he loves her in one of the most insulting proposals ever. I was delighted that she shut him down real quick! But more delighted that they found their way back to each other.

#3 - Still Star-Crossed: Rosaline Capulet & Prince Escalus

Although I may be in the minority, I absolutely LOVED Still Star-Crossed and was so bummed when it didn’t last.

And I’m probably in the double minority of those who loved the show but wanted Rosaline to end up with her first love, Prince Escalus and not the hot Benvolio who she had major chemistry with.

Guess the show getting canceled saved me from mourning Escalus since he was mortally wounded in the last episode! Check out this touching scene where the extent of the feelings between Rosaline and Escalus is finally revealed. 😍😍😍

#2 - Gossip Girl: Blair Waldorf & Chuck Bass

If you love someone, set them free! Free, free, set them free! This is a heart-wrenching scene. I’ll admit I shed some tears watching it as Chuck makes a sacrifice to do what he thinks is best for Blair.

#1 - Smallville: Lois Lane & Clark Kent/Superman

Love this scene when badass Lois is forced to admit that she loves Clark. His eyes at the end of the scene speak volumes!!!

Those are my favorites ...

Let me know what you think. How many of my favorites are on your own list of favorite couples?
